DEN HOOGEWAL AND ITS HISTORY IN THE WAR.

During your travel to the farm you will notice a lot of cemeteries and monuments about the War history. Also our farm has some scarfs from the war. Captain John James Crowe, a soldier of the Worcestershire regiment of the British army, was located in Nieuwkerke. He saved a lot of lives.. The heroic act of bravery earned him the Victoria Cross and awarded the ‘Croix de Guerre’ by the French Government. Apparently the main house of our farm was his headquarter. There are still some bullet holes in the wall. More info can be found here or here
